ICE CREAM MAN by Marcy Brenner (ascap) performed at Nolan's Irish Pub, July 2024 I think all of us know the absolute delight when the ice cream truck came down your street in the summer as a kid. Eddie Murphy did a hilarious bit about it (R-rated). This goes out to all of us who are still kids at heart ... when it comes to the ice cream man. Thank you Nolan's Pub, our host Sam Tritico (Island Music) and Rich Williams for sound; also to my fellow songwriters and warm, wonderful audience for making these magical evenings possible!
SOMETHING NEW by Marcy Brenner (ascap) - a brand new song finished in time to make this quick video on this day, of all days in the year. Gratitude and hope. This song will, no doubt, change before it makes it to our new album. Maybe it will be the title track ...
WHEN WORDS TOOK TIME by Marcy Brenner (ascap) performed at Writer's Night, Nolan's Irish Pub, July 2024 - dedicated to fellow writers! This song comes from my life-long love affair with words and reading, an homage to a sacred thing. It's also a cool blues vibe! Nostalgia lives large in me, and this song is evidence. Thank you Nolan's Pub, our host Sam Tritico (Island Music) and Rich Williams for sound; also to my fellow songwriters and warm, wonderful audience for making these magical evenings possible!
BE THERE by Marcy Brenner at Winter Park Library May 2024 (It’s a bit “jittery” at first but gets smoother) This song is from words my first songwriting mentor/producer (Nik Venet) wrote so long ago. It took me a while but I finally wrote the song. I dedicate to all of my musician and songwriter buddies. But it's also for all of us!
REACHING ACROSS THE DISTANCE by Marcy Brenner (ascap) at Winter Park Library Open Mic May 2024 This song is about how when the humans cooperate, great things can happen. Ocracoke's flood, the pandemic and NASA ... "arm in arm in coexistence, reaching across the distance."
JOE BELL FLOWERS by Marcy Brenner & Lou Castro, performed by Marcy at May 2024 Songwriters Night at Nolans. Marcy wrote this song for the women of Ocracoke who are like the Joe Bell wild flowers (aka indian blanket or gilardia) that bloom all over the Outer Banks and beyond. Marcy: "I wrote the entire song and was whistling it in the kitchen. Louie was working on slack-key Hawaiian guitar and it was perfect for this song!" Thank you Nolan's Pub, the host Sam Tritico (Island Music) and Rich Williams for sound; also my fellow songwriters and terrific audience for making these magical evenings possible!
BE THERE by Marcy Brenner (ascap) performed at Writer's Night at Nolan's Irish Pub, March 2024 My first songwriting mentor, Nik Venet, wrote this down 30 years ago. I framed it and it has been by my writing desk all of these years. I finally wrote the song! Life is short, "the most important thing about time, is to be there when the band starts playing."

SOMETHING NEW by Marcy Brenner (ascap) performed at Writer's Night at Nolan's Irish Pub, Cocoa, FL May 2024 As a quilter and seamstress, I couldn't help but see how the process of making a quilt is so much a metaphor for life. When the big picture is overwhelming, it helps to focus on one small piece at a time. It is a healing process for grief. A place to hold precious memories of loved ones and life events. And it's recycling at its best! Hope you enjoy it. Thanks to the elder ladies of Ocracoke who taught me how to quilt
many years ago.
"My Live Oak" by Marcy Brenner (ascap), Marty Morgan (lyric co-writer, bmi) and Lou Castro (dobro on CD, ascap) performed by Marcy Brenner at Writer's Night in Cocoa Beach, FL. Marty Morgan (Morgan House Music Publishing) and Marcy Brenner started this song in session at Deepwater Theater, Ocracoke, NC and when Marty had to catch the ferry back to Nashville, TN, Marcy rode it with him (2.5 hours) and they worked on the lyric. On the return ferry back to the island, Marcy finished up the lyric and wrote the music, finishing it up. I enjoy sharing it around Mother's Day as it's about my mother, Charlotte and her kitchen table.
PASS HIM BY by Marcy Brenner (ascap) performed at Writer's Night at Nolan's Irish Pub, Cocoa Beach, FL This song comes from an experience 25 years ago when a group of my women friends gathered in Montserrat. The caretaker of the house listened to all of we young women talking about our "boys" and she gave us wise advice. Apparently in her eyes, no one was good enough for us ... jus' pass him by.

The debut of SWEET TEA by Marcy Brenner (ascap) and Erin Sierra (bmi) performed with Lou Castro (ascap) at Writer's Night, Nolan's Irish Pub, Cocoa Beach, FL, Feb 2024 This is a lyric co-write with Erin Sierra from Georgia. We wove our love of the south, and our spouses, into this song. Marcy wrote the music along with Erin's input. And Lou brings the final touches on dobro. PS I just love Dianne's tapping hand in the bottom left of the frame. That's positive feedback right there!

FIVE MINUTES by Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro (ascap)
This is our first love song we wrote together - In honor of our 20th wedding anniversary on Dec 31st, this night we played the first love song we wrote together (this one) and the latest one we recently finished (A Kiss Before I Go). FIVE MINUTES was written about when they first met.
Marcy: "I got back from Paris (a bucket list experience) and found Louie's number in my backpack. We got together and there was a musical spark ... the next night there was a different kind of spark. But I had to tell him that my life expectancy was short having just survived a bone marrow/stem transplant for advanced breast cancer (this was over 20 years ago now!) What he said in the moment inspired my lyrics. Louie provided the great chords."
Performed at Writer's Night at Nolan's.
NEVER LET ME TOUCH THE GROUND by Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro (ascap) was written about Marcy's big sisters Linda and Judi who never let her touch the ground. Writer's Night at Nolan's Irish Pub, Cocoa Beach FL
